I guess I can buy the idea that Amy Winehouse was self-destructive, at heart, because she thought she was ugly – remembering that “ugly” is hinged on cultural norms. You have to buy into conformity and give a shit what others think to seek cover under a Beehive. That doesn’t make her music any less extraordinary. It just reminds me how human it is.
